Instagram DMs and comments, in the same inbox as WhatsApp.
Connect your Instagram professional account and every DM lands in the DueDoor team inbox. Comment keywords can trigger a public reply and a private DM, the AI agent can answer, and each person who writes in is saved as a lead your team can follow up.
What moves between Instagram and DueDoor
Instagram connects through Meta's official APIs. These are the things that move between Instagram and DueDoor once you connect.
| What | Direction | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| Direct messages | Into DueDoor | New DMs arrive in the team inbox, threaded by person, next to WhatsApp, Messenger and email. |
| Your replies | From DueDoor | Typed in DueDoor and delivered as a DM from your Instagram account. |
| Comments on your posts and reels | Into DueDoor | Checked against the keyword rules you set. Comments that match nothing are left alone. |
| Comment reply and private DM | From DueDoor | A short public reply under the comment, and a private DM with your greeting and quick replies. |
| The person | Into DueDoor | Saved as a lead with Instagram as the source and their handle on the record. |
| AI replies | From DueDoor | The AI agent can answer DMs. When a teammate replies, the agent goes quiet in that chat. |
| Scheduled posts | From DueDoor | Posts planned in the DueDoor scheduler can publish to Instagram and Facebook. |
What a reel comment turns into
Someone comments a keyword on your reel. A moment later there is a reply under the comment, a DM in their inbox and a lead in yours.
- The DM thread sits in the same team inbox as WhatsApp and email, so one team answers every channel.
- Each new person becomes a lead with Instagram as the source, ready for stages, tags, notes and tasks.
- Keyword rules decide which comments get an automatic reply, so ordinary comments are not spammed.
- A "Message received" automation can start from an Instagram DM, just like a WhatsApp message.
- When a teammate takes over, the AI agent stops replying in that chat until you switch it back on.
How to connect Instagram
We set it up with you and test it end to end before it runs on real leads.
- 01
Use a professional account
Your Instagram account must be a business or creator account, linked to a Facebook Page you manage. Personal accounts cannot use the messaging API.
- 02
Allow access to messages
In the Instagram app, turn on access to messages for connected tools. Without it, comments still arrive but DMs do not.
- 03
Connect with Facebook Login
From DueDoor, sign in with Facebook, pick the Page linked to your Instagram and approve the permissions. DueDoor then subscribes that Page to Meta's webhooks.
- 04
Set your comment rules
Choose the keywords to watch, the public reply, the DM greeting and up to a few quick-reply buttons.
- 05
Test from a second account
Instagram does not send a webhook for comments you post on your own media, so test with another account.
What it does not do
We would rather you know the edges before you start. These are the honest limits today.
Meta only lets a business message people who wrote to it first, inside a limited window after their last message. DueDoor works inside those rules and cannot send cold DMs.
Personal Instagram accounts cannot be connected. Switching to a professional account is free in the Instagram app.
Comments you post on your own posts do not trigger the automation, by Instagram's design.
Instagram ads leads that use instant forms come through Meta lead ads, which is a separate connection.

Questions about the Instagram integration
Can I connect a personal Instagram account?
No. Meta's messaging API only works with professional accounts, which means business or creator accounts linked to a Facebook Page. Switching an account to professional is free and takes a minute in the Instagram app.
Do Instagram DMs show up next to WhatsApp chats?
Yes. DMs land in the same DueDoor team inbox as WhatsApp, Messenger and email, threaded by person, and your replies go back out as Instagram DMs from your account.
How do comment auto-replies work?
You set keyword rules. When a comment on your post or reel contains one of your words, DueDoor posts your short public reply under it and sends the person a private DM with your greeting and quick replies. Comments without a keyword are left alone.
Will the AI agent reply to every DM?
Only if you turn AI replies on. As soon as a teammate replies to a chat from the inbox, the AI agent goes quiet in that chat, so a person and a bot never talk over each other.
Can DueDoor send DMs to people who never messaged us?
No. Meta allows businesses to message people who contacted them first, within a limited window after their last message. DueDoor follows those rules. For outreach to new people, use ads or WhatsApp templates with consent.
Is this Meta's official API?
Yes. DueDoor connects through Meta's official APIs with Facebook Login, and DueDoor is an approved Meta Tech Provider. Meta reviews the permissions apps use, and you can remove DueDoor's access from your Meta settings at any time.
